Haram Haqiqatjou #19: Slandering Jonathan Brown

Background

Daniel Haqiqatjou has attacked and slandered @JonathanACBrown of Georgetown University and Yaqeen Institute on many occasions, most recently in a YouTube Short from 2020 that has now gone viral after Dan reposted it. But as seen in this FB post, Dan hasn’t always been like this.

In the now-viral YouTube Short from 2020, Brown makes statements about the “right” of an individual in a secular society to insult the Prophet ﷺ, a statement that Brown recanted very quickly after. Haqiqatjou purposefully leaves out Brown’s admission of the grave error, a staple of Haram Haqiqatjous in which the slander is only possible by de-contextualizing an individual’s statement or action.

Haram Action

This is Daniel Haqiqatjou’s bread and butter, slandering fellow Muslims for the sake of his ego and to justify his brutal onslaught of attacks against major Muslim institutions in the West. Of course, in the scenario, Dr. Brown is a well-established Hadith scholar and academic who made a mistake, apologized, and recanted the statement.

Evidence of Haram

Allah commands Believers in the Quran: “O  believers! Avoid many suspicions, for indeed, some suspicions are sinful. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of their dead brother? You would despise that! And fear Allah. Surely Allah is the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.” (Quran 49:12)
Further, the Prophet PBUH stated that “The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor.” (Muslim)
