Haram Haqiqatjou #23: Slandering Yaqeen Institute as Unorthodox

Background

Since his firing from Yaqeen Institute, Haqiqatjou’s slander against Yaqeen has become part and parcel of his work. The most sinister of his accusations against Yaqeen has been that it is not an orthodox Muslim organization, and actively seeks to distort true Islam through liberal and secular thought. Of course, a simple review of Yaqeen’s content disproves this claim.

Much of Haqiqatjou’s slander has been as a result of now-deleted papers, published prior to late 2020. In this video, Imam Tom Facchine and Shaykh Tahir Wyatt discuss the change in process and implementation of an orthodox check that ensures research is Islamically appropriate.

Haram Action

Despite overwhelming evidence that shows Yaqeen made changes to address concerns, as well as a preponderance of orthodox content that Yaqeen continues to publish on a daily basis, Haqiqatjou continues his slander and lies.

Evidence of Haram

Allah SWT says in Surah Al-Hujurat: “O believers, if an evildoer brings you any news, verify it so you do not harm people unknowingly, becoming regretful for what you have done.” (Quran 49:6)

The Prophet PBUH warned that “He who publicizes a (malice) speech will have his misdeeds publicized by Allah. And if anyone makes a hypocritical display (of his deeds) Allah will make a display of him.” Ibn Ḥajar explains that the first part of this hadith means that he who hears of people’s defects and then takes them to the public will have his own defects publicized by Allah.

Haram Haqiqatjou #22: Slandering Yasir Qadhi as a “brazen reformist”

Background

One of Haqiqatjou’s primary victims of slander and lies is Yasir Qadhi. Across various social media platforms, Haqiqatjou has slandered Qadhi repeatedly, name-calling him and infamously referring to him as one of many “compassionate imams”. In this message to over 26k Telegram followers, and all over YouTube and Twitter, Haqiqatjou accuses Qadhi of being a “brazen reformist” for his orthodox opinion that scientific calculations can – and in Qadhi’s opinion, should – be relied upon for moonsighting.

Haram Action

Haqiqatjou outright lies about Yasir Qadhi’s approach to fiqhi matters and slanders him in the process. He claims that Qadhi’s ijtihad follows a methodology that “belittles traditional positions and minimizes fiqh”, and “promotes the modernist/reformist position without evidence”. These are lies of the highest order, and would be punishable without evidence in an Islamic court of law. They also paint a picture of Qadhi as an opportunist, a deviant, and one whose intention is to distort Islamic orthodoxy. All of these claims are lies and contrary to the overwhelming decades of evidence of the good that Qadhi has put forth for the Ummah at large.

Evidence of Haram

As Qadhi stated in a Facebook post in September 2017, “My sins, and the sins of others, will not harm you on Judgment Day. But your sensationalizing those sins, spreading gossip about them, and making them the subject of your meeting places and gatherings may very well cause you distress on Judgment Day, so beware.”

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Five sins cannot be expiated: idolatry with Allah, killing a soul without a just case, slandering a believer, fleeing the battlefield, and bearing false witness to consume the wealth of another without right.”

Haram Haqiqatjou #21: Misquoting Justin Parrott, aka Abu Amina Elias

Background

This is a clear-cut example of Haqiqatjou’s purposeful lies. He cherry-picks from what Parrott had written in order to paint a picture that he wants to portray, which is full of lies.

Haram Action

As Amina Abu Elias states, “Daniel Haqiqatjou is regularly dishonest in his ‘criticism’ of other Muslims. Below he deleted the first half of my paragraph to make it say something else, then he accused me of “making up my own religion.” The irony is the entire article is about the importance of honesty. Daniel has tarnished the reputations of numerous Muslims whose only crime was disagreeing with him. Such behavior disqualifies his opinions about Islam. If he will not quote fellow Muslims accurately, why should he be trusted to quote Allah and His Messenger ﷺ accurately?”

Evidence of Haram

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Shall I not inform you of one of the gravest of the cardinal sins?” We said: “Yes, O Messenger of Allah!” He (ﷺ) said, “To join others as partners with Allah in worship and to be undutiful to one’s parents.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sat up from his reclining position (in order to stress the importance of what he was going to say) and added, “I warn you making a false statement and giving a false testimony. I warn you against making a false statement and giving false testimony.” The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kept on repeating this (warning) till we wished he should stop.

Haram Haqiqatjou #20: Slandering Hamza Yusuf

Background

Like many other public figures, Hamza Yusuf has become a victim of Daniel Haqiqatjou’s slander and online abuse. In one tweet, Haqiqatjou says that “many American Muslims are so secular and have animosity towards Sharia” directly because of Sh Hamza Yusuf and Yasir Qadhi influence within the dawah. This is simply slandering, lying, and the inverse of the truth that both individuals have enhanced the dawah in the West, despite any shortcomings.

Haram Action

This is Haqiqatjou’s bread and butter, attacking any and all Western Muslim scholars on the basis of a mistake, disagreement, or any contentious opinion. In this case, he slanders Hamza Yusuf as being a reason for a supposed American Muslim hatred of the Sharia.

Evidence of Haram

Hudhayfah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The slanderer will not enter Paradise.” Additionally, Allah commands Believers in the Quran: “O  believers! Avoid many suspicions, for indeed, some suspicions are sinful. And do not spy, nor backbite one another. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of their dead brother? You would despise that! And fear Allah. Surely Allah is the Accepter of Repentance, Most Merciful.” (Quran 49:12)

Haram Haqiqatjou #19: Slandering Jonathan Brown

Background

Daniel Haqiqatjou has attacked and slandered @JonathanACBrown of Georgetown University and Yaqeen Institute on many occasions, most recently in a YouTube Short from 2020 that has now gone viral after Dan reposted it. But as seen in this FB post, Dan hasn’t always been like this.

In the now-viral YouTube Short from 2020, Brown makes statements about the “right” of an individual in a secular society to insult the Prophet ﷺ, a statement that Brown recanted very quickly after. Haqiqatjou purposefully leaves out Brown’s admission of the grave error, a staple of Haram Haqiqatjous in which the slander is only possible by de-contextualizing an individual’s statement or action.

Haram Action

This is Daniel Haqiqatjou’s bread and butter, slandering fellow Muslims for the sake of his ego and to justify his brutal onslaught of attacks against major Muslim institutions in the West. Of course, in the scenario, Dr. Brown is a well-established Hadith scholar and academic who made a mistake, apologized, and recanted the statement.

Evidence of Haram

Allah commands Believers in the Quran: “O  believers!
Further, the Prophet PBUH stated that “The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor.” (Muslim)

Haram Haqiqatjou #18: Accusing Dalia Mogahed of Architecting CVE

Background

Daniel Haqiqatjou has repeatedly and consistently attacked Dalia Mogahed, accusing her of amongst many things, architecting CVE programs. But Haqiqatjou knows better, and spreads this lie with the intention of slandering her name. While Mogahed was in fact part of a Countering Violent Extremism Working Group, this group was active prior to the existence of the US government’s CVE program. Haqiqatjou has spewed lie after lie in seeking the destruction of a fellow Muslim. This piece of investigative journalism by Ahmed Monem is an indictment of Haqiqatjou’s slander.

Haram Action

As Ahmed Monem states in his investigative piece linked above, “Dalia was invited to serve on the (unpaid) advisory committee of experts and Muslim community leaders before the development of the CVE program as part of her work as researcher with Gallup. She was there to present research that debunked the junk social science which claimed Muslim religiosity was an indicator of propensity toward violence.”

Evidence of Haram

Haqiqatjou almost certainly is aware that his claims are false and slanderous.

If Daniel Haqiqatjou was unaware of these truths, then we call him on to repent for his backbiting and slander.

Haram Haqiqatjou #17: Slandering Omar Suleiman/LGBT Accusation

Background

Daniel Haqiqatjou’s primary victims of slander and backbiting are the major scholars of the English-speaking Muslim community in the West and Africa, namely Omar Suleiman, Mufti Menk, and Yasir Qadhi. Of course, the list of his “slander-worthy” scholars and daee’s is long, but these specific individuals have been attacked rather relentlessly by Haqiqatjou and his cronies.

Of the biggest slanderous accusations against Omar Suleiman, specifically, is that he is secretly pro-LGBT, pro-gay marriage, and/or holds leftist social values. All of these lies have clear cut proof their falsehood. Omar Suleiman and his organization, Yaqeen Institute, have continuously made clear the Islamic orthodox stance on LGBT and the modern issue of gay marriage. Here are only a few of many sources where Suleiman makes clear what Allah SWT and His Prophet ﷺ have made clear in the tradition.

  1. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #1
  2. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #2
  3. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #3
  4. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #4
  5. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #5
  6. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #6
  7. Omar Suleiman on LGBT #7

Haram Action

Haqiqatjou has slandered Omar Suleiman on numerous occasions, and his slander continues to this day. Despite Haqiqatjou’s knowledge of the fact that Omar Suleiman does not hold the positions he accuses him of, he continues his slander and lies. The number of instances of slander are numerous and easily accessible online. We did not include them here due to the graphic and slanderous nature of the content.

Evidence of Haram

The Prophet PBUH said: “The one who starts abusing his fellow Muslim and calling him names bears the sin of both, unless the abused person uses more vulgar phrases than the first”. (Muslim) Imaam al-Nawawi explained this prophetic saying as: “This means that the person who starts insulting a Muslim or calling him names will bear the sin incurred by such an act for both of them, unless the second party uses more severe and vulgar phrases than the first”.

Haram Haqiqatjou #16: Abuse and Misinterpretation of Hadith

Background

In a Twitter thread, Daniel Haqiqatjou in commenting on the hadith above, described the Prophet ﷺ as not teaching “unlimited kindness to women”, and not being a “simp”. This is extremely disrespectful, haram, and irresponsible language for two reasons.

Haram Action

1.) This is a misinterpretation of the hadith above in Sahih Bukhari and not an extrapolation made by the great scholars of our tradition. Instead, the Prophet ﷺ is referring to his adherence to the command of Allah SWT in the Qur’an to uphold justice, even if against one’s own self and family members.
2.) A God-conscious Muslim is careful in their use of low language even in defense of the Prophet ﷺ. Haqiqatjou’s vocabulary is regularly accusatory, low, and unbefitting of a Muslim.

Evidence of Haram

The Prophet ﷺ said, “The most evil matters in religion are those that are newly invented, for every newly invented matter is an innovation, every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.” The Prophet ﷺ also said, “Indecency and obscene words distort any act, while courteousness embellishes any good act”.

Haram Haqiqatjou #15: Defaming a Muslim, calling him a “Simp Moron”

Background

Asadullah Ali, a Ph.D. candidate in Islamic Studies, and a regular commentator on anti-Islam polemics has contributed much to the dawah scene over the past 5-6 years. In this post on Facebook, Asadullah criticizes Daniel Haqiqatjou and his ilk for their crude language and “disgusting memes”, even in debates with individuals who insult Islam and Muslims.

Haram Action

Haqiqatjou responds in a way that is slanderous and haram, calling Asadullah a “simp moron” and a “former CVE fed”, accusing him of reporting Muslims he has disagreements with to the FBI, a grave accusation that can only be described as an accusation of treason against Islam and Muslims. Further, Daniel is a master manipulator and a former SEO marketing expert. His inclusion of “Yaqeen” as a term in association with “simp” and “CVE” is purposeful and slanderous.

Evidence of Haram

Allah commands Believers in the Quran: “O  believers!

Further, the Prophet PBUH stated that “The whole of a Muslim is inviolable for another Muslim: his blood, his property, and his honor.” (Muslim)

Haram Haqiqatjou #14: Slandering Saajid Lipham

Background

In a live stream from his YouTube page The Muslim Skeptic, Daniel Haqiqatjou slanders Saajid Lipham and calls him a bootlicker, something he has done via social media prior to this Livestream. While Haqiqatjou recants his slander immediately after slandering Saajid Lipham, the damage is done by name association. He has repeatedly associated Lipham and others with the term bootlickers.

Haram Action
Daniel Haqiqatjou slanders Saajid Lipham.

Evidence of Haram
Calling people with offensive nicknames, especially slanderous ones, is an act of clear haram. Allah SWT says: {…and do not call each other by [offensive] nicknames. Wretched is the name of disobedience after [one’s] faith. And whoever does not repent — then it is those who are the wrongdoers.} [Quran 49:11]
Hudhayfah reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The slanderer will not enter Paradise.”

Haram Haqiqatjou #13: Calling for the Hanging of a Public Health Official

Background

At the height of the COVID pandemic and as a vaccine was rolled out, Daniel’s rhetoric became more and more violent and irrational. His hatred of then Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, became a toxic obsession, seemingly fueled by language from the far-right in the US.

Haram Action
Daniel calls for the murder of Dr. Anthony Fauci, a despicable and haram act. Even in Western secular law, this is considered a threat of murder and can be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Evidence of Haram
Daniel writes “Hang Fauci”, calling for the murder of a civilian doctor. Threatening the life of a civilian is categorically haram. There is no evidence within the Prophetic tradition of any such language. Further, publicly calling for this murder only worsens the gravity of this act and incites hatred and potential acts of violence. Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “…Whoever calls to misguidance will have sin upon him similar to those who follow him, without detracting from their sins at all.”

Haram Haqiqatjou #12: Calling for the Killing and Mutilation of a Public Health Official

Background

At the height of the COVID pandemic, as a vaccine was rolled out, Daniel’s rhetoric became more and more violent and irrational. His hatred of then Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, became an obsession, seemingly fueled by language from the far-right in the US.

Haram Action
Daniel calls for the murder and posthumous mutilation of the body of Dr. Anthony Fauci, a despicable, haram, and gross act by all definitions. Where does one begin in explaining the number of haram actions committed in this public Telegram message alone?
Daniel writes “Hanging him is not enough. Lock his head in a mesh cage filled with hungry sand flies. I would say lock his head in a cage with hungry dogs, but I think it would be cruel to the dogs to feed them such filth.”

Evidence of Haram
Torturing the living and mutilating the dead are categorically prohibited in Islam. In a hadith in the context of jihad against the disbelievers who harmed the Prophet (PBUH), Safwan ibn `Assal said: the Prophet (PBUH) sent us on an expedition and said: “Move under the protection of Allah and for the sake of Allah. Fight those who disbelieve in Allah but never mutilate (the dead).” (Reported by Ibn Majah) Even in the context of jihad, this was prohibited. In the case of a doctor civilian, this is a categorical haram.
Threatening the life of a civilian is categorically haram. There is no evidence within the Prophetic tradition of any such language. Further, publicly calling for this murder by torturous methods only worsens the gravity of this act and incites hatred, violence, and potential acts of violence.

Haram Haqiqatjou #11: Referring to a Muslim Scholar as a “Bootlicker”

Background
Saajid Lipham, a former friend of Daniel Haqiqatjou’s, advocates for an approach that outlaws rebellion against the ruler except for situations in which the ruler publicizes their disbelief. After their fallout, Daniel resorted to name-calling and insults.

Haram Action
Daniel refers to Saajid as a bootlicker, and suggests his subscribers on Telegram also share this video with similar “bootlickers.” This is haram and low language.

Evidence of Haram
“The Prophet ﷺ was not one who would abuse others or say obscene words, or curse …” (Bukhaari). The Prophet ﷺ said, “The believer is the brother of another believer…he does not belittle him” [Muslim]. Never once did the Prophet (ﷺ) mock another person and scholars have agreed that it is haram.

Haram Haqiqatjou #10: Calling Muslims “Bootlickers”

Background
There is a clash between the Salafi and Deobandi communities on many fiqhi issues. While Daniel Haqiqatjou does not adhere to either school of thought directly, in this conversation, Daniel is confronted on the concept of وحدة الوجود which is an issue of contention between the Salafis and the Deobandis.

Haram Action
Haqiqatjou often uses terms like “bootlicker” against the Salafi scholars. This is a haram action because name-calling and insulting your brothers is forbidden in Islam.
Additionally, Daniel claims that the said fatwa provided as evidence was an “obvious fabrication”. The evidence proved that it was not a fabrication at all, and when the original poster provided evidence that debunked that claim, Daniel rejected it completely and insisted on his lie.

Evidence of Haram
Daniel violates the Islamic command to validate news before accepting it, as is stated in Surah Hujurat. He then rejected corrections and even lied that the evidence was a fabrication. He also engages in blatant name-calling.
Allah SWT says: “You who have faith! If a deviator brings you a report, scrutinize it carefully in case you attack people unwittingly and later deplore what you have done.”
Allah SWT says: “Believers, no one group of men should jeer at another, who may, after all, be better than them; no one group of women should jeer at another, who may, after all, be better than them; do not speak ill of one another; do not use offensive nicknames for one another. How bad it is to be called a mischief-maker after accepting faith! Those who do not repent of this behavior are evildoers.”

Haram Haqiqatjou #9: Lying and Associating Scholars with Haram

Background
In this Telegram chat message, Daniel mocks “Zaid Shakir and his buddy Omar Suleiman”, lying about their political and social views. This has been a consistent part of Haqiqatjou’s messaging in which he continuously associates certain terms with Muslim scholars. Here, he directly reinforces his messaging of “compassionate imams”, associating scholars with the most haram of actions.

Haram Action
He slanders and mocks mainstream shuyookh. He first claims that they are in Washington DC “protesting new LGBT laws that will force Islamic schools to teach gay history”, then states he’s “just kidding”, only to then slander Zaid as being someone who supports “whatever laws Washington puts on the books, as long as those laws are about protecting (i.e., imposing) LGBT rights”. This is categorically haram and is a lie about Zaid Shakir’s character and integrity.

Evidence of Haram
Aisha reported: There was no behavior more hateful to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, than dishonesty. A man would tell a lie when speaking in the presence of the Prophet and he would not be satisfied until he knew that he had repented. (Sunan al-Tirmidhī 1973)
Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever intercedes to obstruct a prescribed punishment from Allah, he has opposed Allah. Whoever argues in falsehood and he knows it, Allah will be angry with him until he retracts it. Whoever claims about a believer what is not true about him, Allah will lodge him in a putrid sinkhole of Hell until he recants his claim.”
Samurah ibn Jundub reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “I saw a dream at night in which two men came to me. They said: The one whose face you saw being torn away was a great liar, who would tell a lie and it would be carried until it reaches the horizon. This will be done to him until the Day of Resurrection.” (Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 5745)

Haram Haqiqatjou #8: Abuse of Hadith to Justify Abusing Women

Background
Daniel Haqiqatjou posted a screenshot of a Q&A in which someone asks if the Prophet ever hit his wife. He screenshots the part of the answer in which this specific translation uses the terminology “painful shove”. This is irresponsible and misleading, as Aisha (ra) herself narrates that the Prophet ﷺ never once hit his wives or servants. Rather, the further commentary explains that this was merely a finger placed on her chest.

Haram Action
Daniel specifically screenshots the section of the hadith translation that insinuates bodily harm was inflicted by the Prophet ﷺ on Aisha (ra), we ask Allah for refuge from such claims and from those who make such references. He then slanders what he refers to as “compassionate imams” by suggesting they teach a “women-worshipping” version of Islam, and we ask Allah to protect us from such language.

Evidence of Haram
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not strike a servant or a woman, and he never struck anything with his hand.”
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2328, Grade: Sahih
“Telling lies about me is not like telling lies about anyone else. Whoever tells lies about me deliberately, let him take his place in Hell.” Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 1229.

Reaction from Muslims Online

Haram Haqiqatjou #7: Mocking the Religion of Others

Background
In a Twitter back-and-forth, Daniel Haqiqatjou mocks an Ahmadi by suggesting this individual should visit an outhouse, the supposed place of death of Mirza Ghulam Ahmed.

Haram Action
Mocking those of another religion, going against a clear command from Allah SWT to stay away from such actions and language. While the Ahmadi religion is kufr, mocking religion is not acceptable. Allah SWT ordered the Prophet (saw) to not mock even the mushrikeen’s religion.

Evidence of Haram
Daniel mocks the religion of another and pokes sarcastic comments at the rituals of another religion. When Bani Israil accused Musa (as) of being sarcastic, his reply was, “I seek Allah’s refuge from being a jahil, or an ignorant fool.”
“And insult not those whom they (disbelievers) worship besides Allah, lest they insult Allah wrongfully without knowledge. Thus We have made fair-seeming to each people its own doings; then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do” [al-An‘aam 6:108]”.
A point of irony: Of the characteristics of the people of Lot was that they would gather in clubs for the purpose of putting people down and mocking them. Daniel Haqiqatjou’s Twitter and Telegram accounts serve as a revival of this wretched pastime.

Haram Haqiqatjou #6: Describing College Education as a Gateway to Becoming a “Well-Used Object”

Background
A George Washington University Muslim female student, Aiza Saeed, led an effort to make emergency birth control easily accessible on campus. Despite the Islamically questionable nature of this initiative, one would need to have a conversation with the individual to truly understand their motivation.

Haram Action
Vile language, describing a potential female Muslim college student as a “well-used object”, and insinuating kufr. This type of language is unbefitting of someone who has a platform amongst Muslims, encourages takfeer of Muslims who may engage in questionable acts, and exudes irresponsibility.

Evidence of Haram
The Prophet (Sal Allaahu Alaiyhi wa Sallam) said:
O ‘Aaishah! Have you ever seen me speaking bad and dirty language? (Remember that) the worst people in Allah’s sight on the Day of Resurrection will be those whom the people desert or leave in order to save themselves from their dirty language or from their transgression.” (Bukhaari)
Ibn Umar reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever claims about a believer what is not true about him, Allah will lodge him in a putrid sinkhole of Hell until he recants his claim.

Haram Haqiqatjou #5: Calling for the Murder of a Public Health Official

Background
At the height of the COVID pandemic, and as a vaccine was rolled out, Daniel’s violent hatred of then Chief Medical Advisor to the President of the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, became a toxic obsession, seemingly fueled by language from the far-right. While it is everyone’s right to decide whether they will take a vaccine, the Qur’an teaches us to “ask those of knowledge if we don’t know”. In this case, that refers to the consensus of medical doctors, scholars, and academics regarding the vaccine.

Haram Action
Daniel calls for the murder of Dr. Anthony Fauci, a despicable and haram act. In modern Western secular law, this is considered a threat of murder and can be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Evidence of Haram
Daniel writes “Hang Fauci”, calling for the murder of a civilian doctor. Threatening the life of a civilian is categorically haram. There is no evidence within the Prophetic tradition of any such language. Further, publicly calling for this murder only worsens the gravity of this act and incites hatred, violence, and potential acts of violence.

Haram Haqiqatjou #4: Slandering Joe Bradford

Background
Joe Bradford is a scholar of Islamic finance and a graduate of the University of Madinah. He tweeted the above graphic. Daniel’s response is categorically haram. Here’s why.

Haram Action
Daniel refers to Joe as a simp. A simp can be defined as a male who enjoys submissiveness to a female, a hated and haram trait in the Islamic tradition.
